How To Use The Avada Setup Wizard https://avada.com/documentation/how-to-use-the-avada-setup-wizard/ Thu, 07 Apr 2022 22:41:05 +0000 https://theme-fusion.com/?post_type=documentation&p=874233

When you first install Avada, the Avada Setup Wizard is triggered, which guides you through some basic choices in the setup of your new site. Depending on whether your will be starting with a Prebuilt Site as a basis for your new website, or you will be building a new website from scratch, you will encounter different steps.

Read on to see how the Setup Wizard can save you a lot of time with initial choices when starting a website. You can also watch the video below for a visual overview.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.

Initial Steps – Registration & Setup Type

Step 1 – Registration

The Avada Setup Wizard is initiated automatically on a new install of Avada. This takes you to Step 1 of the Wizard, where you need to register your copy of Avada. (It’s even personalized with your name, taken from the Display name publicly as field in your user profile).

To register your copy of Avada, simply paste in the purchase code found on the Downloads page on your ThemeForest account. Please see the How To Register Avada document for more details on this process. Upon registration, the two required plugins, Avada Core and Avada Builder are both installed and activated.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 1 - Registration

Step 2 – Setup Type

Once you register, the Setup Wizard automatically takes you to Step 2. Here, you choose the type of Setup Wizard you want to continue with; the Prebuilt Website wizard, or the New Website Wizard, and then enter the basic details of your site – the Site Title and Tagline. At this point the Setup Wizard forks, depending on which choice you make.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 2 - Setup Type

Prebuilt Website Wizard

Step 3 – Select A Website

When choosing a Prebuilt Website, the Setup Wizard is short and sweet, as many of the possible choices are contained in your choice of prebuilt site. The colors, typography, pages etc, all come with the import of the prebuilt site, and so there is not a lot the Wizard needs to do. So here, your most important choice is to choose a Prebuilt Site that best reflects the style of the website you want to create. To do that, simply mouse over your desired website and choose Select.

See the How To Import A Prebuilt Avada Website doc for more information to help you with that process.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 3 - Select A Website

Step 4 – Finish

The final step of the Prebuilt Website Wizard simply asks you to Complete the Setup, and then displays the progress of the prebuilt website import.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 4 - Finish

When the Wizard has completed its tasks, you are redirected to the final page, that displays a range of links for you to view or start editing your site, manage layouts, menus, global options, set up a support account, and read up on the Avada documentation.

Avada Setup Wizard > Finished

New Website Wizard

Step 3 – Colors

If you choose the New Website option back in Step 2 – Setup Type, then the Wizard forks and takes you to Step 3 of the New Website Wizard – Colors. This is where you select or build the color palette that your website will use. Please see the How To Use The Global Color Palette In Avada documentation for more information on how this important feature works.

At the top of this page, you can filter the color palettes by color (or remove the filter by clicking on it again), choose directly from one of the prebuilt site color palettes by clicking on it, or build your own by clicking the Custom Palette button. Once you have selected your Color Palette, the Wizard moves to the second Color page.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 3 - Colors
Avada Setup Wizard > Step 3 - Colors

Here, you can determine whether your site should have a Light or Dark skin. Light is the default, but if you choose Dark, you get a visual representation of how your color choices will work. You can also scroll through the various prebuilt palettes with the arrow buttons. To continue, click on Next Step to go to Typography.

Alternatively, you can click on Customize, which opens a further dialog below. This is also what you get if you click on Custom Palette in the preceding Step. Here, you can edit the existing palette, and at the bottom, you are given Accessibility Recommendations to ensure you have enough contrast in your color palette.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 3 - Colors

Step 4 – Typography

In this step, you select your desired website typography scheme. There is a huge range of prebuilt typography sets to choose from, prepared by our professional designers. Simply click on one to go to the next section. You can always change or fine tune the typography settings later, of course, in the Avada > Global Options > Typography tabs.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 4 - Typography

Once you have made your initial typography selection, the next page allows you to set the Base Font Size, and the Sizing Ratio pattern to apply to your Headings. You can choose from Minor Second, Major Second, Minor Third, Major Third, Perfect Fourth, Augmented, Perfect Fifth, or Golden Ratio.

There are also arrows at the top which you can use to scroll between the prebuilt typography sets. When you are happy with the look of your typography, click Next Step.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 4 - Typography

Step 5 – Layouts

To speed up your build, in this step, you can select your Header and Footer Layout. A standard header and footer are selected by default, but when you click on Select Header or Footer, you can instead choose from the large range found in Avada Studio. You can also select a logo at this time.

And not only can you choose from the Avada Studio designs, but there are Import Options below and above the previews, and here you can customize the way your selected header and footer come in. Note that the headers and footers preview are based on the colors and typography already selected in the Setup Wizard.

With the Import Options, you can choose to invert the colors, not import images, or instead choose to import them as they look in Avada Studio, but the default settings will give you a site with a pre-designed header and footer, complete with your chosen site colors and typography, all in a few clicks. See the Import Options section of How to Use Avada Studio for more details on these very cool import options, which also apply to normal Avada Studio content.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 5 - Layouts

Step 6 – Content

To speed up your build, in Step 6 – Content, you can add pages and other features to your website. This can be a simple page, or a more advanced feature like a Shop. With the basic pages – Home, About, Services, and Reviews, the pages are created, and populated with Avada Studio basic content.

With the other selections, Blog, Portfolio, Shop and Contact, a range of other things happen behind the scene. For example, if you select Portfolio, the Portfolio Custom Post Type is activated, a Portfolio page is created, Single Portfolio and Portfolio Archive layouts are created, and these are populated with relevant Layout Sections. To see a full list of what is created for each selection, see below.

By default, Import Dummy Content is also selected at the top of the dialog. This creates dummy blog posts, portfolio items, and shop products so you can best appreciate the layouts created for these items, and sets you up with a fully functioning feature that you can then customize with your own content.

Finally, at the bottom of the dialog you will see which features and plugins that will be installed and activated. Avada Forms and Off Canvas are selected by default, as are any necessary plugins for your selections. But at this point, you can also activate any of the other plugins that come with Avada.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 6 - Content

Avada Wizard Actions For Selected Pages & Features

  • Home – page created; basic Studio Content added.
  • About – page created; basic Studio content added.
  • Blog – page created, Layouts created for Single Blog Post, & Blog Archive, Layout Sections created for both, & basic Studio content added.

  • Shop – WooCommerce plugin installed, Shop, Cart and Checkout pages created with content and assigned, Layouts created for Single Product, & Product Archive, Layout Sections added with basic Studio content & Thank You Page Layout and Content Layout Section created.

  • Contact – page created, basic contact form created, & basic Studio content added.

  • Search page Layout and Layout Sections created, & basic Studio content added.

  • 404 page Layout and Layout Sections created, & basic Studio content added.

  • Menu created based on page and feature selections, and assigned to Header Layout.

Step 7 – Finish

In Step 7, the Setup Wizard collates all the information provided and prepares all selections for implementation. Simply click Complete Setup, and the Setup Wizard will finalize your website setup.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 7 - Finish

When the Wizard has completed its tasks, which takes a minute or two, depending on your selections, you are redirected to the final Setup Wizard page. This displays a range of links for you to view or start editing your site, manage layouts, menus, global options, set up a support account, and read up on the Avada documentation.

Avada Setup Wizard > Finished

Result

If we look at a montage of the resultant website from the New Website Wizard, we can see that we have a fully functional website with Studio content, and dummy content for blogs, portfolios and shop items.

The Avada Setup Wizard can take less than five minutes to run, but provides you with a fully functional website, set up with your own color and typography choices, as well as all the additional features you might require. From this point, it’s a simple matter to customize the site, and these initial setup steps will save you literally hours of time. Now, that is magic!

How To Purchase Avada https://avada.com/documentation/how-to-purchase-avada/ Mon, 10 May 2021 01:12:28 +0000 https://theme-fusion.com/?post_type=documentation&p=866044

Avada is a Website Builder for WordPress, with host of features that make designing and customizing websites easy for beginners, marketers, and professionals. Avada includes 109 prebuilt websites that you can import with a few clicks and customize as much as you would like to suit your requirements. In addition, there is a vast library of prebuilt Sudio content that you can import into any website.

Additionally, Avada receives regular updates and is always compatible with the latest WordPress versions, ensuring continuity and security.

How To Purchase Avada

Avada can be purchased solely on the Themeforest Marketplace, the number-one best-selling theme for over 11 years. Be advised not to purchase it anywhere else, as unlicensed versions won’t have a purchase code needed for free updates and product support and would likely be hacked copies containing malicious code.

To purchase Avada, you must create a Themeforest account and log in to that account. On the Avada page, you can see a huge range of information, to assist you with your purchasing decision, including features summaries, full details of what’s included, and links to all the prebuilt websites.

To purchase Avada, click the ‘Buy Now’ button at the top right of the page and use a Credit Card or PayPal account to complete the purchase.

Once you have purchased Avada, you will find your copy of the theme on the Downloads page, which can be accessed under your user profile. You can download the Full Avada Package or the Installable WordPress File Only from here.

See below to watch a video of How To Purchase Avada on the Themeforest marketplace, and to learn how to install Avada, check out the How To Install Avada via WordPress doc.

Changes to Registration with Avada 7.3 https://avada.com/documentation/changes-to-registration-with-avada-7-3/ Sun, 11 Apr 2021 23:27:46 +0000 https://theme-fusion.com/?post_type=documentation&p=864875

As of Avada 7.3, how you register your Avada website has changed. This was done primarily to simplify the process, based on user feedback, from using a generated Token key, to simply pasting in the Purchase Code to register your purchase of Avada. Read on for more details about this new process, and watch the video below for a visual overview.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.

Clean Install

For a new install, registering is a simple matter of obtaining the purchase key from the ThemeForest account that purchased Avada and pasting it into the registration field on the Avada Dashboard. See the How To Register Avada documentation for full details on this process. If you are updating your website from an earlier version to Avada 7.3, the process will be slightly different. In this case, your site would already be registered with a Token Key, and this needs to be replaced with a Purchase Code.

Updating to Avada 7.3+

Once you have updated Avada, and updated both the Required plugins, you will see a message on the Avada Dashboard about the site registration, as you can see in the screenshot below. There is a grace period of 10 days for you to locate your purchase code, and re-register with the new method. Within these 10 days, the site will be as normal, and you can still update plugins and import prebuilt sites, etc.

Avada 7.3 > Update Registration Notice

Once you have located the relevant purchase code, all you need to do here is click on Update Registration, paste the code into the Registration field, and click Register Now! You’ll be rewarded with a confirmation message and a tick, and it will also show as registered at the top of the Dashboard.

Each Avada website you create needs to have a unique purchase code, so allocate each copy of Avada you have purchased to a specific website. That said, this new registration system still allows you to have a registered development site, whether it be a staging or local site, as well as the main website, but the way you manage this has changed a little bit.

Please see the Avada License/Registration Q&A linked below, for answers to many commonly asked questions about licensing and registration, and check out the How To Use My Avada documentation for more information on how to submit support tickets and manage your Avada licenses.

Registering Avada is quick and easy, and provides many benefits. To register, all you need is your purchase code. Registration is required to receive automatic updates for Avada, to download any of the Avada Prebuilt Websites and included premium plugins, as well as to register for a support account. Read on to get the exact steps for registering Avada, and watch the video for a visual overview.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.

Locating Your Purchase Code

The first thing you need to register your purchase is a copy of your Purchase Code. To locate this, just follow these simple steps.

1. Head to ThemeForest, and log into the account you purchased Avada with.

2. Navigate to the Downloads page, found under your user name. Here, under the Download dropdown next to your Avada Purchase you will find the License Certificate & Purchase Code, available to download in both PDF and text format.

Download ThemeForest Purchase Code

3. Open the downloaded License Certificate and find the Item Purchase Code, as can be seen below.

4. Copy the Purchase Code onto the clipboard, so you can return to your installation and register your purchase.

Envato License Certificate

Using The Setup Wizard To Register

Once you have installed Avada, the next thing to do is to register your purchase. There are two ways to do this. On a new install, the Avada Setup Wizard will run immediately after installation, and registration is the first step of the Wizard. All you will need is your purchase code, as shown above.

Alternatively, if you decide not to run the Setup Wizard, you will have to register manually, as shown in the section below.

Avada Setup Wizard > Step 1 - Registration

Manual Registration

To manually register Avada, just paste your copied Purchase Code into the field provided on the Avada Dashboard, and and click on Register Now, as shown in the screenshot below. This will register your copy of Avada, and link the url to the purchase.

Avada Dashboard > Unregistered

License Terms

Make sure you familiarize yourself with the full license terms of Avada. This document outlines the terms of the license and exactly how to use your license for development installations such as local & staging sites.

Registration FAQ

Follow the link below to see an FAQ for all things Registration.

Fallback Methods

If you’re experiencing difficulty with downloading and installing the offloaded plugins and demos, please Submit A Support Ticket, so that we can help you. There are also a couple of fallback methods, as shown below.

1.) Fallback Method for Premium Plugins

If Registration continues to fail and you can’t install the premium plugins, an alternative is to go to your My Avada Account, then switch to the Support > Downloads page. Here, you will be able to download the Premium plugins manually.

2.) Fallback Method For Prebuilt Websites

For an alternative method to download and install the Avada Prebuilt Websites, please see our Prebuilt Avada Websites Alternate Import Method document.

Thank you for choosing Avada! Avada is a WordPress Website Builder trusted by 998,659 beginners, marketers & professionals and created with usability and performance in mind.

With this Quick Start Guide, we want to help you quickly get started with building your website by listing the essential starting points you may need to do to get up and running.

Purchase Avada

Avada can be purchased solely on the Themeforest Marketplace. Be careful not to purchase it anywhere else, as this would be an illegal, and probably hacked, copy. When you purchase Avada, you’re buying it for one website, as an individual purchase code is required per top-level domain registration.

Please see the video below that shows you the process of purchasing Avada on the Themeforest website.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.

Download and Install Avada

Once you have hosting, and WordPress is installed, you are ready to install Avada. To do this, you need to get the installable file from the ThemeForest account, from which Avada was purchased. There are then a couple of ways to install Avada; via WordPress, or via FTP. This is a five-minute process that is well explained in these docs and videos.

Register Your Purchase

Immediately after installing and activating Avada, you are required to register your purchase. Registration allows you to install and update Premium plugins, import prebuil websites, download automatic updates for Avada, and to register for support. To register Avada, you just need the purchase code from your purchase, which you can download at ThemeForest, and which you then paste into the Registration field on the Avada Dashboard. For more information on this process, please see the following documentation, and its included video.

Run The Avada Setup Wizard

The Avada Setup Wizard offers a way to set your website up quickly and efficiently. This will load automatically on any new install immediately after registration. There are two types of setup – one for using a prebuilt site as the basis of your website, or another for a new website that you will build from scratch. The Setup Wizard covers required plugin installation, and then depending on your setup type, importing a prebuilt, color and typography selections, content selection and more. For full details, see the documentation, linked below.

Alternatively, you can register Avada, install the required plugins, and import a prebuilt website manually, as listed below.

Install The Required Plugins

Registering Avada gives you access to the bundled premium plugins, two of these which are required to be installed for Avada to function correctly and fully. These are Avada Core and Avada Builder. For everything you need to know about installing and updating the plugins that come with Avada, see the document, and its included video, linked below.

Import Prebuilt Website (optional)

One of the easiest and quickest ways to get a website up and running with Avada is to choose to install one of our 80 + prebuilt websites. With our easy to use importer, you can transform your basic WordPress installation into a completed website in a matter of minutes. Then you can customize it with your own branding and content, and have a website up and running in no time at all. How To Set Up A Child Theme With Avada https://avada.com/documentation/avada-child-theme/ Tue, 04 Aug 2015 14:51:54 +0000 https://theme-fusion.com/documentation/avada-child-theme/

A WordPress child theme allows you to apply custom code changes to your site. Using a child theme ensures that all your customizations will not be overwritten even when you update the parent theme. Continue reading below to learn how to setup your own child theme, and watch the video for a visual overview.

For privacy reasons YouTube needs your permission to be loaded.
Avada Child Theme

What Is A Child Theme?

A child theme is a theme that has all the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme, which in our case is Avada. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying the code of an existing theme, because a child theme preserves all custom code changes and modifications even after a theme update.

If you modify code directly in a parent theme, and then update the parent theme, your changes will be lost. Always use a child theme if you intend modifying core code. Child themes can be used for a number of things, such as custom CSS applications, template file modifications, and custom PHP functions and/or hooks. There are a couple of methods to modify a child theme. Child themes don’t guarantee that an update of custom code on the parent theme will not require further maintenance. This is especially true if you copy files from the parent theme to your child theme.

Downloading and Installing the Avada Child Theme

Before anything else, you must first download and install the Avada child theme to begin making your customizations. The Avada child theme comes with downloading Avada’s Full Package from ThemeForest, and the method of installing it is exactly the same as installing Avada normally. Editing The Child Theme

Once you have uploaded and activated the child theme, you can make your edits via the Appearance > Theme File Editor option. By default, a child theme has only a style.css file, and a functions.php file. You can edit either directly from this screen.

Methods Of Modifying A Child Theme

There are a several methods you can use to modify a child theme, and we’ll be explaining 3 methods below. These methods are copying files from a parent theme, pluggable functions, and actions and filters. To learn more about each one, please continue reading below.

Method 1: Copying Files From Parent Theme

Copying files from the parent theme to a child theme is a common method to make code customizations. This is the easiest method available, but there are limitations to it. Due to the limitations, we recommend only copying the files inside the templates folder from the parent theme into the child theme.

  • You can only copy some files to the child theme. In Avada, we have made a decision to make sure that core logical code which can break the theme is not able to be copied into the child theme. This includes the files inside the includes folder.

  • It is not update-safe (sometimes). Whenever we make major changes to a certain file e.g. header.php in the parent theme, you’ll have to copy the theme file from parent theme again and apply the customizations again. If you don’t do this, there’s a chance that the related feature might not work anymore.

Method 2: Pluggable Functions

Pluggable functions are PHP functions that can be changed inside a child theme or a even a plugin. If a function is wrapped inside a function_exists call within the parent theme, you can create the same function in the child theme which will override the original function from the parent theme, because child theme functions are loaded first.

Example of a function override inside the Child Theme

To change the rendering of the Page Title Bar, you can override Avada’s avada_get_page_title_bar_contents function, which is located in Avada/includes/custom_functions.php. The function definition looks like this:

Simply copy the function to the functions.php of the child theme, which will override the parent theme’s one. Once done, you can modify it to meet your needs.

Method 3: Actions and Filters

The correct and safest way of updating or modifying theme functions within a child theme is using actions and filters. Apart from the actions and filters built-in within Avada, you can use the default WordPress actions and filters to modify the theme’s functionality.

A simple example would be changing the image size generated for blog large layout thumbnails in Avada. The correct way to re-register within the child theme is to use after_setup_theme action in the child theme functions.php, remove the image size and then re-register the image size.
